FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Executive protection is a specialised security service that safeguards business leaders, dignitaries, and other high-profile individuals from threats. It typically combines risk assessment, close protection officers, secure transport, and advance planning for travel and events, with the aim of preventing incidents rather than reacting to them.

A close protection officer (CPO), often called a bodyguard, is a security professional assigned to protect a specific person. CPOs assess threats, plan routes and venues in advance, stay close to the principal in public, and respond to emergencies, usually as part of a coordinated team.

Close protection training usually covers threat assessment, protective formations, defensive and advanced driving, firearms handling, and emergency first aid. In South Africa, officers must also be registered with PSIRA, and many complete further accredited courses and regular refresher training throughout their careers.

Private security in South Africa is regulated by the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), established under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001. Security businesses and individual security officers must register with PSIRA, which also enforces the industry's code of conduct and minimum training standards.
